Colorado Department of Education must ensure standardized summative assessments are administered to students to the minimum extent practicable while still effectively assessing academic achievement

Department must apply for a federal waiver from U.S. Department of Education within 90 days of the bill's effective date if necessary to reduce assessment requirements under 20 U.S.C. Section 6311

Waiver application may propose shortened assessments, sampling models, matrix sampling models, or other alternative assessment strategies

"Summative assessment" is defined as an assessment measuring learning accumulated over a semester or more, demonstrated through student knowledge and skills
