Peace officers responding to domestic violence incidents must determine if a party is a current member of the armed forces (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Space Force, Coast Guard, or National Guard)

If a party is a military member, the officer must search the National Crime Information Center database to check for existing military protection orders issued by a commanding officer

Officers who find an existing military protection order must notify the law enforcement agency that entered the order into the database

Courts must consider the existence of a military protection order as relevant evidence when determining whether to issue a temporary civil protection order

Effective date is August 12, 2026, unless a referendum petition is filed
