Qualified General Assembly members may take leave from outside employment during regular and special legislative sessions beginning January 1, 2027

Employers cannot terminate employees for requesting or taking legislative leave, and must restore members to the same or equivalent position upon return with equivalent benefits, seniority, and pay

Leave may be paid, unpaid, or partially paid at the employer's discretion; members must provide 30 days written notice before regular sessions

Eligibility limited to members who do not manage more than 20 employees and whose income does not exceed 120% of area median income

Exemption applies to employers who must maintain nonpartisan legislative, judicial, or election-related staff
