HB 5046 Summary

• Prohibits banks, Connecticut credit unions, and federal credit unions from charging overdraft fees or penalties resulting from errors or omissions in Social Security Administration direct deposit tapes.

• Requires Connecticut banks to give customers the option to waive automatic overdraft fees or penalties when those fees or penalties exceed the customer's account balance.

• Takes effect October 1, 2010.
