Repeals and replaces Section 29-299 of the general statutes concerning local fire marshal dismissal procedures, effective October 1, 2010.

Requires the appointing authority of a municipality to dismiss a local fire marshal who fails to faithfully perform duties after proper inquiry, and mandates appointment of a successor.

Requires the State Fire Marshal to be promptly notified of any local fire marshal removal and successor appointment.

Clarifies that municipalities may dismiss a local fire marshal employed or appointed on an at-will basis in accordance with provisions in the municipal charter or home rule ordinance.

Updates gender-specific language in the statute to use gender-neutral terms.
