Teachers who began a beginning educator program before July 1, 2009, but have not completed it and participate in the teacher education and mentoring program during 2010-2011 are exempt from paying the $200 fee to renew their initial educator certificate.

Teachers meeting the conditions in the above bullet point who renewed their certificates before this act takes effect must pay a $75 nonreturnable fee for a provisional educator certificate upon completion of the teacher education and mentoring program.

Beginning teachers holding initial educator certificates and not having participated in any beginning educator program as of July 1, 2009, must participate in the teacher education and mentoring program.

Teachers in elementary education, English and language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, special education, bilingual education, music, physical education, visual arts, health, world languages, and English as a second language must complete the full teacher education and mentoring program.

Beginning teachers in other endorsement areas whose primary function is providing direct instruction must complete one year of mentorship and two instructional modules.
