Coaches holding intramural or interscholastic athletics permits must complete an initial concussion and head injury training course by July 1, 2010, and annually review current information on the topic thereafter

Training courses must cover recognition of concussion symptoms, obtaining proper medical treatment, risks of continuing play after injury, and return-to-play protocols, developed by the State Board of Education in consultation with athletic organizations and medical representatives

Coaches must immediately remove student athletes exhibiting concussion signs or diagnosed with a concussion and cannot permit return to physical activities until cleared by a licensed health care professional (physician, physician assistant, advanced practice registered nurse, or athletic trainer)

A five-year refresher course on concussions is required starting July 1, 2015, as a condition for coaching permit reissuance, covering key safety practices, medical developments, and relevant laws

The State Board of Education may revoke coaching permits of any coach found in violation of these requirements
