Municipalities must protect and save harmless volunteer firefighters, volunteer ambulance members, and volunteer fire police patrol members from financial loss and legal fees arising from claims of negligence or civil rights violations while performing their duties.

Municipalities must also protect these volunteers from financial loss and legal fees for claims involving alleged malicious, wanton, wilful, or ultra vires acts, except that volunteers must reimburse the municipality if a court enters judgment against them for malicious, wanton, or wilful acts.

Defines "volunteer fire police patrol member" as any member of a nonprofit volunteer organization operating under a municipal fire department that has completed firefighter training in the state.

No action for trespass shall lie against firefighters, volunteer ambulance members, or volunteer fire police patrol members while crossing or working on another's land to perform their official duties.

Takes effect October 1, 2011.
