Requires courts to interview children age 12 and older in custody cases upon motion of a party, child's counsel, guardian ad litem, or the court's own motion to ascertain the child's preferences and information relevant to custody decisions.

Permits courts to interview children under age 12 in custody cases at the court's discretion.

Allows an attorney for a party, counsel for the child, or a guardian ad litem to be present during court interviews with the child.

Requires all interviews conducted pursuant to this section to be recorded and made part of the case record upon motion of a party, child's counsel, guardian ad litem, or the court's own motion.

Effective October 1, 2011, amending section 46b-56 of the general statutes regarding custody and care of minor children.
