Establishes a mandatory minimum sentence of two years imprisonment for assault of public safety, emergency medical, or public transit personnel, classified as a class C felony.

Court may not suspend or reduce the mandatory minimum sentence except when the offender was under 18 years old at the time of the offense or had significantly impaired mental capacity that did not constitute a complete defense to prosecution.

For persons already confined in Department of Correction facilities, any new sentence imposed under this section for assaulting a DOC employee must run consecutively to their existing sentence.

Effective date: October 1, 2011, with amendments to General Statutes section 53a-167c(b).
