Allows inmates in Department of Correction drug dependent, work release, or education release programs to request permission to remain in a correctional facility for up to 90 days beyond their parole release or discharge date.

Permits any inmate to request a 30-day extension beyond discharge if they are scheduled for transfer to a treatment program or health care institution that cannot accept them on the scheduled date, or for any compelling reason consistent with offender rehabilitation or treatment.

Allows persons under Department of Correction jurisdiction participating in programs operated by other state departments to request remaining in such programs for up to 90 days beyond parole release or discharge.

Requires requests for extended stays to be submitted in writing to the Commissioner of Correction at least one week before the scheduled parole release or discharge date.

Authorizes departments to charge a reasonable daily fee to inmates or persons granted permission to remain in facilities or programs beyond their scheduled release or discharge dates.

Effective July 1, 2011.
