Individual health insurance policies providing prescription drug coverage cannot deny coverage for refills of chronic illness medications when refills are synchronized among the insured, practitioner, and pharmacist.

Group health insurance policies providing prescription drug coverage cannot deny coverage for refills of chronic illness medications when refills are synchronized among the insured, practitioner, and pharmacist.

Both requirements apply to policies covering the types specified in subdivisions (1), (2), (4), (11), and (12) of section 38a-469 of the general statutes.

Provisions become effective January 1, 2012.
