HB 6394 Summary

• Implements New Haven Line rail fare increases of 1.25% effective January 1, 2012, followed by 1% annual increases through January 1, 2017, with proceeds no longer required to be deposited into a dedicated revitalization account.

• Increases motor vehicle registration fees across multiple categories effective July 1, 2011, including passenger vehicles ($75 to $80 biennial), motorcycles ($40 to $42), commercial vehicles, and commercial driver's licenses ($15 to $17.50 annually).

• Adds a $25 late fee for operators and $25 late fee for commercial driver's licenses who fail to renew within the required timeframe.

• Eliminates the Connecticut Transportation Strategy Board and repeals related sections, transferring transportation planning responsibilities to the Department of Transportation and regional planning agencies.

• Adjusts motor vehicle license fees for operators ($44 to $48 for 4-year, $66 to $72 for 6-year licenses) and adds mandatory vision screening requirements for every other license renewal beginning July 1, 2011.
