Food service establishments may purchase shell eggs from unregulated sources not inspected by the Department of Agriculture, provided the eggs meet the same standards as commercial regulated sources under federal and state law.

Shell eggs from unregulated sources must be received clean and sound and graded in accordance with Connecticut General Statutes Chapter 423.

The Commissioner of Agriculture must determine whether unregulated shell eggs meet the required standards.

The Commissioner of Public Health shall amend the Public Health Code to conform with these provisions.

Effective date is October 1, 2011; purpose is to enable shell egg producers with fewer than 500 birds to be approved food sources for food service establishments.
