HB 6564 - Assault of Licensed Security Officers

• Expands the definition of assault of public safety personnel under Connecticut General Statutes Section 53a-167c to include security officers licensed under section 29-161q.

• Licensed security officers are added to the protected class alongside peace officers, firefighters, emergency medical personnel, correctional employees, and other public safety workers.

• All five existing forms of assault (causing physical injury, throwing objects, using mace or tear gas, throwing staining agents, and throwing bodily fluids) now apply to licensed security officers when acting in performance of their duties.

• Assault of licensed security officers constitutes a class C felony with the same penalties as assault of other public safety personnel.

• Effective date: October 1, 2011.
