HB 6614 Summary

• Expands the definition of entities that may organize medical foundations to include medical schools, in addition to hospitals and health systems, effective October 1, 2011.

• Defines "medical school" as an allopathic medical school leading to an M.D. degree, accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, and affiliated with or part of a university incorporated in Connecticut or established by state statute and accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

• Requires medical foundation boards of directors to consist of an equal or greater number of providers than nonprovider employees of the member organizations.

• Permits medical foundation corporate names to include either descriptive words about professional services or a reference to the name of the member hospital, health system, or medical school.
