Municipalities with volunteer fire companies may establish affordable housing projects for active, good-standing volunteer firefighters who have served at least one year in the municipality.

Projects are developed through collaboration between the municipality's housing authority, the Commissioner of Economic and Community Development, the Secretary of the Office of Policy and Management, and the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority.

Municipalities may donate land for use as affordable housing under this program.

Governmental and nongovernmental agencies may provide financial assistance and redevelopment grants to fund the development of affordable housing projects.

Effective date is October 1, 2011.
