School building principals must report physical assaults by students on teachers or school employees to local police authorities when a written report is filed with the principal.

School administrators are prohibited from interfering with teachers' or employees' rights to file complaints with local police regarding threats of physical violence or physical assaults by students.

Principals who fail to report required assaults face fines between $500 and $2,500.

Principals who fail to report required assaults must participate in an educational and training program established by the Commissioner of Education, with costs paid through participant fees approved by the commissioner.

The act takes effect on October 1, 2011.
