Notaries public are prohibited from offering or providing legal advice in immigration matters or representing persons in immigration proceedings unless they are admitted attorneys or authorized under federal regulation 8 CFR 292.2.

Notaries public may not assume, use, or advertise the titles "notario" or "notario publico" unless they have been admitted as attorneys under Connecticut General Statutes section 51-80.

Violations of these provisions constitute violations of subsection (a) of section 51-88 of the general statutes and are subject to penalties set forth in subsection (b) of that section.

The act takes effect on October 1, 2012.
