Allows retired teachers receiving retirement benefits to be reemployed in teaching positions at public institutions of higher education for unlimited time if they possess exceptional expertise in the subject matter area.

Permits retired teachers to be reemployed for up to one school year by local boards of education, the State Board of Education, or state system of higher education constituent units in subject shortage areas or priority school districts.

Reemployment extensions beyond one year require written approval from the Teachers' Retirement Board, certification that no qualified candidates are available, and documentation of assignment details and duration.

Reemployed teachers are not eligible for continuing contract status but receive salary comparable to active teachers with similar training and experience, and may receive the same health insurance benefits as active teachers.

Takes effect July 1, 2012 and amends Section 10-183v of the general statutes.
