Repeals and replaces Section 38a-625 to reorganize exemptions from insurance statutes for certain associations, effective July 1, 2012.

Exempts six categories of associations from insurance regulations: grand/subordinate lodges operating since 1958, craft/occupational societies, employer-limited domestic societies, religious/charitable societies, nonprofit ambulance services, and tax-exempt organizations under IRC Section 501(c)(23) (through July 1, 2015).

Removes exemptions for societies providing death or disability benefits through benefit certificates, or religious/charitable societies with over 1,000 members, requiring compliance with insurance provisions.

Prohibits exempt societies (except craft/occupational groups) from compensating individuals for recruiting new members.

Updates Section 38a-595 to clarify that craft/occupational societies are recognized as fraternal benefit societies subject to applicable insurance regulations, effective July 1, 2012.
