Electric companies and electric distribution companies must provide geographic information systems data to municipalities and regional planning agencies upon request, including utility pole ownership, identification numbers, XY coordinates, pole height, classification, and street light wattage information for their service areas.

Municipalities may request location data for medical hardship accounts from electric companies during public safety emergencies.

Recipients of utility data must demonstrate to the electric company that they have implemented procedures to protect confidentiality before receiving the information.

Data provided under this act is for internal use only and cannot be publicly disclosed without prior consent from the electric company; such data is exempt from Freedom of Information Act disclosure requirements.

The act takes effect immediately upon passage.
