Motorists must bring vehicles to a complete stop at least 10 feet from a school crossing guard on any highway or private road when the guard specifically directs them to do so, effective October 1, 2013.

First offense for failing to stop carries a fine of $450; subsequent offenses result in fines of $500 to $1,000, imprisonment up to 30 days, or both.

Police officers may issue written warnings or summonses to vehicle owners based on written reports from school crossing guards that include the vehicle's license plate number, color, type, date, approximate time, and location of the violation.
