Reduces the parental notification timeline from within five days to not later than twenty-four hours after a child is admitted to a hospital for mental health diagnosis or treatment.

Applies to children fourteen years of age or older who are admitted with their own written consent without parental consent.

Also applies to children in the custody of the Commissioner of Children and Families who are admitted with commissioner request, legal counsel agreement, and child consent (if fourteen or older).

Maintains existing provisions allowing hospitals to detain a child for five business days if a parent or guardian requests release, to allow commitment proceedings to be filed.

Effective October 1, 2013.
