Department of Social Services, Board of Regents for Higher Education, and University of Connecticut must collaborate on a study examining the effectiveness of using state Medicaid to pay health insurance premiums for students at constituent units

Study targets students who are enrolled in constituent units, lack other health insurance coverage, and are eligible for state Medicaid benefits

Study must evaluate whether state Medicaid should pay premiums for health insurance sponsored by constituent units and provide supplemental health insurance coverage to qualifying students

Joint report on study findings must be submitted to the General Assembly's standing committees on higher education and human services no later than January 1, 2014

Effective date: July 1, 2013
