Repeals and replaces subdivision (9) of section 53a-3 of the general statutes to redefine "peace officer" to include Department of Correction officials authorized by the Commissioner of Correction.

Removes the limitation that Department of Correction officials could only make arrests "in a correctional institution or facility" and instead allows them to make arrests "while in the performance of the official's duties."

Expands the arrest authority of authorized Department of Correction officials beyond the confines of correctional facilities to anywhere they are performing their duties.

Effective date is October 1, 2013.
