Physicians must earn a minimum of 50 contact hours of continuing medical education within each 24-month renewal period.

Required training topics include infectious diseases (including AIDS/HIV), risk management, sexual assault, domestic violence, cultural competency, and behavioral health, with at least one contact hour per topic during the first renewal period and not less than once every six years thereafter.

The Department of Consumer Protection may waive up to 10 contact hours for physicians serving on the Connecticut Medical Examining Board, medical hearing panels, or assisting the department with board and commission duties.

Physicians must retain records or certificates of completion demonstrating continuing education compliance for a minimum of six years following the year activities were completed and must submit them to the department within 45 days of request.
