Investigators of child abuse and neglect must coordinate activities to minimize the number of interviews with any child and share information with other authorized investigators.

Persons reporting child abuse or neglect must provide investigators with all information in their possession related to the investigation, except where prohibited by state or federal law.

The Department of Children and Families must obtain parental or guardian consent before interviewing a child, except when the parent/guardian is suspected as the perpetrator or when seeking consent would place the child at imminent risk of physical harm.

Interviews conducted without consent must include a disinterested adult present, unless immediate access to the child is necessary to protect them from imminent physical harm and no disinterested adult is available after reasonable search.
