SB 847 - Commission for Technology Advancement

• Renames the "Commission for Educational Technology" to the "Commission for Technology Advancement" and expands its membership to include the Secretary of the Office of Policy and Management, Commissioner of Economic and Community Development, University of Connecticut president, and Consumer Counsel, effective July 1, 2013.

• Changes commission governance so the Governor appoints the chairperson instead of the commission electing one, and requires quarterly meetings instead of being convened by the Lieutenant Governor.

• Broadens the commission's focus from education-only to state-wide technology advancement goals including digital literacy, high-speed networks for government and education, and municipal facilities connectivity.

• Modifies reporting requirements from annual to biennial reports to joint standing committees on education, commerce, higher education, and appropriations.

• Repeals sections 4d-84 and 4d-85 and removes references to "Department of Information Technology" in favor of "Department of Administrative Services" throughout the general statutes.
