Expands workers' compensation coverage for firefighters and police officers to include cardiac emergencies occurring up to 72 hours after completion of training or duty.

Cardiac emergencies (defined as cardiac arrest or myocardial infarction) are presumed to be work-related and within the scope of employment unless proven otherwise by preponderance of evidence.

Applies to uniformed members of paid municipal fire departments and regular members of paid municipal police departments or constables who began employment on or after July 1, 1996.

Requires that members must have successfully passed a physical examination upon entry into service that showed no evidence of cardiac conditions.

Effective October 1, 2013.
