Department of Education shall establish a board examination series program (changed from discretionary "may" to mandatory "shall") allowing students in grades 9-12 to substitute passing scores on State Board of Education-approved examinations for high school graduation requirements under section 10-221a

Department must approve or develop examinations for the board examination series program no later than January 1, 2014

State Board of Education shall issue a board examination certificate to students who successfully complete the program, which is considered equivalent to a high school diploma for public institution of higher education enrollment eligibility in the state

Local and regional boards of education must permit students to graduate upon successful completion of the board examination series program, effective for the school year commencing July 1, 2014, and each subsequent school year

Act takes effect July 1, 2013
