Pharmacists must include the quantity of prescribed drug and a prominently printed expiration date on prescription container labels, with expiration dates based on manufacturer recommendations and no later than the manufacturer's stated expiration date.

The Commissioner of Consumer Protection, in consultation with the Commission of Pharmacy, shall adopt regulations establishing standardized language and formatting for prescription container labels to ensure they are easily understood by ordinary individuals.

The standardized labeling requirements apply to all prescription containers and are designed to reduce medication errors caused by patients incorrectly taking prescribed medications.

The act takes effect January 1, 2015 and amends General Statutes Section 20-617.
