Substitute House Bill No. 5566 (Public Act No. 14-230) Summary

• Replaces the title "special master" with "district improvement officer" and "school improvement officer" throughout education statutes for low-achieving schools and districts.

• Modifies vision and hearing screening requirements in schools: vision screenings for kindergarten, grade one, and grades three to five; hearing screenings for kindergarten, grade one, and grades three to five (removes grade eight and nine requirements).

• Changes postural screening requirements to female students in grades five and seven, and male students in grades eight or nine (removes blanket requirement for grades five to nine).
