SB 252 - Office of Child Support Services

• Renames the "Bureau of Child Support Enforcement" to the "Office of Child Support Services" throughout Connecticut statutes, effective October 1, 2014.

• Authorizes the Office of Child Support Services to investigate parental financial conditions, determine child support liability, and redirect payments to the state or custodial party with notice to obligor and obligee.

• Grants the Office authority to determine if child support obligors are receiving unemployment compensation and to collect obligations through withholding agreements or court orders.

• Establishes the Office's responsibility for making referrals to the federal Parent Locator Service, recommending needed legislation to the Governor and General Assembly, and maintaining a state case registry of all support orders.

• Enables the Office to enter into cooperative agreements with judicial, law enforcement, and administrative officials to assist in administering the child support enforcement plan and Title IV-D of the Social Security Act.
