Customized wheelchairs are covered under Medicaid only when standard wheelchairs do not meet an individual's needs, as determined by the Department of Social Services.

Wheelchair repairs, parts replacements, and categories of other durable medical equipment may be subject to department review and approval.

Refurbished wheelchairs, parts, and components must be utilized whenever practicable for the Department of Rehabilitation Services program and the Birth-to-Three program.

The Department of Social Services may designate additional categories of durable medical equipment beyond customized wheelchairs for which reused equipment, parts, and components shall be utilized whenever practicable.
