HB 6783 Summary

• Labor Commissioner, in consultation with the Commissioner of Higher Education, shall conduct a study on the feasibility of unionizing college athletes in the state

• Study must determine the steps necessary to implement unionization if deemed feasible

• Labor Commissioner must submit a report to the joint standing committees on labor and higher education by October 1, 2016

• Report shall include summaries of unionization initiatives in other states, potential positive and negative impacts including financial impacts, proposed model statutory language, and recommendations for further action

• Provision becomes effective October 1, 2015
