Allows municipalities with charter or special act authority to appoint a single nonpartisan registrar of voters instead of multiple registrars, notwithstanding other provisions of state law.

New appointment takes effect upon the next vacancy in the registrar position or when a current term expires, whichever occurs first.

Single appointed registrar assumes all duties and responsibilities previously carried out by the office of registrars of voters or multiple registrars under state law.

Effective upon passage of the bill.
