HB 6911 Summary

• Requires alarm monitoring companies to make reasonable attempts to contact subscribers by telephone or other electronic means to verify alarm activation before requesting police or fire department response.

• If initial contact fails and a secondary contact number exists, the monitoring company must make a second reasonable attempt to verify the alarm.

• Exempts verification requirement if the monitoring company has a visual or auditory system capable of verifying the alarm activation independently.

• Maintains existing fine structure for false alarm responses by State Police: waives first three annual responses, then charges $25 (4th), $50 (5th), $75 (6th), and $100 (7th and subsequent) per response.

• Allows municipalities to impose additional fines for false alarms through local ordinances under section 7-148, effective October 1, 2015.
