State agencies unable to provide interpreting services with their own staff must first request such services from the Department of Rehabilitation Services before seeking services elsewhere.

Agencies may only seek interpreting services from other providers if the Department of Rehabilitation Services is unable to fulfill the request in a reasonable amount of time.

The Department of Rehabilitation Services is exempt from this requirement when interpreting services are needed for internal matters where using department interpreters would create confidentiality concerns.

All interpreting services provided by state agencies must comply with the provisions of section 46a-33a of the general statutes.

The act takes effect on July 1, 2015.
