Companies must cross-reference the provided Social Security number with the customer's legal name, aliases, date of birth, age, current address, and phone number

Public service companies may use third-party companies to perform the verification process

Customers who were minors at the time their account was opened are not liable for unpaid bills if another person opened the account using their Social Security number
