Institutions of higher education and their constituent units may require faculty members under consideration for promotion to submit to state and national criminal history records checks under section 29-17a of the general statutes.

Institutions may discipline faculty members, including through termination of employment, in accordance with their disciplinary procedures if a faculty member is convicted of a felony while employed.

Any collective bargaining agreements or employment contracts entered into on or after October 1, 2016, cannot include provisions that limit an institution's ability to conduct criminal history checks or discipline faculty for felony convictions.

The act takes effect October 1, 2015.
