Effective July 1, 2015, transfers authority for professional doctoral degree programs (except research doctorates, medical, dental, and law degrees) from the University of Connecticut to the Connecticut State University System.

University of Connecticut retains exclusive responsibility for research doctoral degrees, doctor of medicine, doctor of dental medicine, and juris doctor degrees.

Connecticut State University System gains authority to offer professional doctoral degree programs and maintains existing responsibility for master's degrees and education doctoral programs.

Connecticut State University System must consider four factors when approving new professional doctoral programs: budgetary impact, existing expertise, accreditation standards, and professional employment standards in the field.
