All business firms must equip their regular places of business in Connecticut with carbon monoxide detection and warning equipment by January 1, 2017, unless the building lacks a fuel-burning appliance, fireplace, or attached garage.

Carbon monoxide detection equipment must sense carbon monoxide, be installed per manufacturer's instructions, be readily available for retail sale, and be tested and certified by the American National Standards Institute or Underwriters Laboratories.

Required equipment must provide an audible alarm to warn occupants when activated and may be battery-operated.

Effective date for all provisions is July 1, 2016.
