Parents must cause children ages five and older to attend public school regularly during school hours and terms, unless the child is a high school graduate or receiving equivalent instruction elsewhere.

Parents may delay school enrollment for a child turning six until age seven only if a licensed physician certifies the child should not attend school until age seven, or the child has been identified as having a developmental delay through a birth-to-three program or preschool program under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.

Parents or guardians must personally appear at the school district office and sign an option form to exercise the delay, and the school district must provide information on available educational opportunities.

The act takes effect July 1, 2016, and amends section 10-184 of the general statutes.
