State Board of Education shall award an "exemplary veterans education program distinction" to local and regional school boards upon request that offer programs teaching students about veteran contributions or collaborating with local veterans organizations.

Eligible programs may include classes, extracurricular activities, presentations, or symposiums focused on veterans as defined in Connecticut General Statutes section 27-103.

School boards submit requests for the distinction at times and in formats prescribed by the state board, including details about their veteran education programs.

State Board of Education, in consultation with the Department of Veterans' Affairs, must make information about the distinction available on the Department of Education's website.

Act takes effect July 1, 2016.
