Creates new crime of aggravated assault of a public transit employee when assault involves use or threatened use of a knife, box-cutter, firearm, or similar weapon; classified as a class B felony, effective October 1, 2017

Creates new crime of assault of an off-duty public safety employee (police officers or Department of Correction employees) committed with intent to intimidate, harass, or retaliate based on their employment status; classified as a class C felony, effective October 1, 2017

Off-duty public safety employee assault requires the victim was not acting in performance of duties and was not the initial aggressor at time of offense
