Court shall order electronic monitoring by global positioning system device as a condition of release for any person convicted of sexual assault under sections 53a-70a or 53a-70c who is awaiting sentencing or has noticed intent to appeal.

Person subject to GPS monitoring may be required to pay directly to the electronic monitoring service provider for costs of services, except courts must waive costs if the person is found indigent.

Court may contract for electronic monitoring services with providers, with total cost not to exceed five dollars per day, adjusted annually for inflation.

Existing conditions of release for convicted persons awaiting sentencing remain unchanged, including written promise to appear, bonds with or without surety, cash deposit, or property pledge.

Act takes effect October 1, 2018.
