Elevates the penalty for intentionally injuring or killing a police animal or volunteer canine search and rescue dog from a class D felony to a class C felony, effective October 1, 2019.

Applies the enhanced penalty only when the animal is performing its duties under supervision of a peace officer or active volunteer team member.

Removes a separate subsection that previously imposed fines up to $10,000 or imprisonment up to 10 years for intentionally killing such animals.

Maintains existing animal cruelty provisions for general animal abuse, malicious injury or killing of animals, and animal fighting-related offenses with their respective penalties.
