HB 5381 Summary

• Establishes escalating renewable energy portfolio standards for electric suppliers and distribution companies from 2006 through 2030, with Class I renewable sources ranging from 2% in 2006 to 40% by 2030.

• Requires an additional 3-4% of total energy output from Class I or Class II renewable sources annually, with the Class II portion increasing to 4% starting January 1, 2018.

• Changes the Class II renewable requirement to exclude Class I sources (specifying "Class II only" rather than "Class I or Class II") for years 2020 through 2030.

• Provides an exception for electric suppliers with retail contracts entered into or renewed on or before May 24, 2018, requiring only 20% Class I renewable energy in 2020 instead of 21%.

• Becomes effective upon passage and amends section 16-245a(a) of Connecticut's general statutes.
