Full-service restaurants are prohibited from providing single-use plastic straws to consumers unless requested, effective January 1, 2020.

Single-use plastic straws made from petroleum or biologically-based polymers are restricted, but straws made from paper, pasta, sugar cane, wood, metal, or bamboo are permitted.

Restaurants must provide single-use plastic straws upon request to any person with a disability.

First and second violations result in warnings; third and subsequent violations incur fines of $25 per day, not to exceed $300 annually, enforced by municipal or district health departments.

Municipalities may adopt stricter ordinances limiting plastic straw provision, provided they do not prohibit straws for persons with disabilities.
